Frequently Asked Questions

GENERAL

Start by learning to balance on one leg – back straight, arms raised, and breathing deeply. Once you can hold your balance on both legs, take your first steps by initiating movement from the hips, not the shoulders. Shaking legs are completely normal at first and disappear with practice, just like learning to ride a bike.

No. Like any sport, the key is to start with a setup suited to your level. Set the line low and short to learn safely. Your setup evolves as your skills grow: as the line feels easier, gradually increase the length and height.

Both work fine – it comes down to personal preference. Barefoot offers better feel and grip on the webbing; shoes provide more support and protection. Try both and see what feels right for you.

Yes! Tricks are possible on any GIBBON slackline. For more performance, the GIBBON Jibline or Surfer Line are great choices for intermediate trickliners. For advanced tricklining, explore our dedicated Trickline Webbing Series.

Yes, it is generally possible to book slackliners for events. Please send all requests to events@gibbon-slacklines.com

We're always on the lookout for passionate and talented slackliners. Reach out to us via info@gibbon-slacklines.com with your profile, social media handles, and a short video of your skills.

Yes – GIBBON Slacklines is headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany, and operated by ID SPORTS GmbH. We have a US-based subsidiary and work with over 30 distributors worldwide. For general enquiries, contact info@gibbon-slacklines.com.

Yes – wash the webbing with cold water and a small amount of neutral soap. Never wash the metal parts or the ratchet; keep all hardware dry. Treat the ratchet regularly with synthetic lubricant to prevent rust.

SLACKYARD

The SLACKYARD is designed for grass and compact soil. It is not suitable for sand or extremely soft ground. For softer ground, extend your ground anchors and add more screws per side. For hard or dry soil, try wetting the grass first so the screws drive in more easily.

Absolutely – it's one of the best ways to start. Unlike traditional slacklines that can feel high and intimidating, the SLACKYARD lets you begin just a few centimetres off the ground. Start with a short, tight line for maximum stability, then increase the length as your balance improves.

Yes! The SLACKYARD is a complete all-in-one system. It includes heavy-duty A-FRAME pedestals, GIBBON webbing, a high-tension ratchet, and our proprietary ground-screw anchors. All you need is a standard power drill.

At maximum extension, the SLACKYARD spans 9 metres and stands 43 cm tall. It weighs approximately 15 kg, making it easy to transport or store away for winter.

Initial assembly takes about 15–20 minutes. Because the SLACKYARD is weather-resistant, most users set it up once at the start of the season and leave it ready all summer.

Not at all. The SLACKBOARD is your foundation – the SLACKYARD gives you more space to explore the flow of slacklining, with the same safe, low-height experience you already love.

No. The ground screws work like a lawn aeration tool and leave only small holes that grass recovers from within a few days. No concrete, no digging.

The SLACKYARD safely supports a single user weighing up to 180 kg.

Extend the ground anchor (at least one hole must still overlap) and add more screws per side to increase stability.

Lowest setting for lines 1–2 m long; second hole for 3 m; third or fourth hole for lines longer than 3 m.

Start at 1 m apart. Maximum recommended distance is 5 m. Always re-check anchors and ratchet before each session.

Yes! You can use webbing from other GIBBON sets, but the usable length will be shorter due to the height of the A-FRAMEs.

1× Slackline Classic (New Edition), 1× Ratchet, 4× A-FRAME legs, 2× A-FRAME pedestal, 2× Wooden pedestal plate, 2× Female ground anchor, 2× Male ground anchor, 8× Ground screws, 8× Washers, 4× Short bolts, 2× Long bolts, 4× Wooden pedestal bolts, 1× Ground drill bit, 1× Allen wrench.

Yes! Check out the GIBBON Balance App for step-by-step programmes that teach you how to walk your first slackline and progress further.

In most cases, yes – a power drill is the most efficient way to drive the ground screws securely into the soil.

SLACKBOARD

The SLACKBOARD DUO has two parallel lines. Double lines are recommended for children up to 5 years, standing workstations, and therapeutic use. For most users, the single-line SLACKBOARD maximises balance training benefits.

The SLACKBOARD SE (Special Edition) features a limited-edition design print on premium maple wood from Canada. Performance is identical to the standard SLACKBOARD.

Yes! Indoors and outdoors – at home, in the garden, at the beach, or at the office. Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture or direct sunlight to preserve the wood.

Absolutely. The low-to-the-ground design makes it ideal for all levels. Your foot stays close to the ground, making it easy and safe to restart.

No – it comes fully assembled and is ready to use straight out of the box. An optional professional Setup Service is available for 14.95 €.

Yes! Replace the line at any time, or add a second line to upgrade to a double-line setup. Replacement cork pads are also available.

Double lines are ideal for young children (up to 5 years), standing workstations, and therapeutic use. For everyone else, a single line maximises instability and balance training benefits.

GIBBON PRODUCTS

We do not recommend leaving your GIBBON slackline set up when not in use, as it will reduce the perfomance of the webbing over time, and can have adverse effects on any fixpoints (e.g. trees).

For spare parts please check our Accessories, we offer extra ratchets, band slings, etc. For webbings only and advanced accessories, check out our new modular series!

The batch code can be found on the label attached to either the slackline, or the ratchet band. It will start with “PO” followed by a number.

Please check if the ratchet was set up correctly and if the webbing is blocking the natural movement of the ratchet lever. Please always keep hands and fingers out of any areas of the ratchet that have moving parts, as this may result in injury. Try using a screwdriver to lever open any blocked part until normal detensioning can be applied.

As all GIBBON Classic sets have a loop for using with a girth hitch around trees, you will not be baled to use a second ratchet with this set. You can, however, exchange the existing ratchet with band for a GIBBON Powerratchet and band sling.

The XXL ratchet is only recommended with the GIBBON Modular Webbing Series. Please refer to our website of Slack app for product details and for your nearest dealer.

We recommend not putting more than 100lbs of tension on sets for beginners. Generally, it is sufficient to set the line at a tension that causes it to vibrate when flicked.

Our slacklines are rated from 3000-6000lbs depending on the type. We do not recommend however to us the line with more than one person at a time, and not to exceed 250lbs. Our Independence Kits are rated at 240lbs for a maximum user weight.

The user manual can be found in all product packaging, on our website, or alternatively on the GIBBON Slackapp.

Slacklining is for all ages, but we do recommend kids below the age of 12 to not use any GIBBON slackline without support and supervision.

We do not recommend using your GIBBON slackline if there is any noticeable damage to the webbing, the ratchet, or any other part of the system.

All metal parts are prone to developing rust if not kept dry and out of any weather conditions. In order to avoid this, please keep your ratchet dry and clean, and ideally treat it with synthetic lubricant.

The drum on the ratchet is only designed to take about 2–3 rotations. Generally, misuse is due to the slackline not being pre-tensioned by hand before applying the ratchet. Please see user manual for details.

Both products are similar. The main difference being the line used and the extra accessories coming with the Slackrack Fitness. For the Slackrack Fitness, the line is thinner and therefore generates more vibration, it also comes with a Tera band and a poster to practice different exercises. We recommend the Slackrack Classic for a family use and the slackrack fitness for balance and coordination training.

WARRANTY

All GIBBON products are covered by the statutory 2-year warranty under EU law, starting from the date of purchase. This covers manufacturing defects and material faults under normal use conditions.

The warranty does not cover damage caused by normal wear and tear, improper use, modifications, or neglect – for example, using a damaged slackline, leaving the ratchet exposed to weather without maintenance, or exceeding the stated weight limits.

For all warranty claims, please contact your point of purchase first. Retailers are responsible for processing warranty claims and will liaise with us directly in case of disputes. If you purchased via our online shop, contact support@gibbon-slacklines.com with your order number, a description of the issue, and clear photos of the defect.

Rust caused by exposure to moisture and weather is considered normal wear and is not covered under warranty. To prevent rust, always keep your ratchet dry, clean it regularly, and treat it with synthetic lubricant after use outdoors.

No. We strongly advise against using any GIBBON slackline if there is visible damage to the webbing, ratchet, or any other component. Discontinue use immediately and contact your retailer or our support team.

BUYING "THE RIGHT LINE FOR ME"

For starting doing tricks on our slacklines we recommend the Gibbon Jibline or alternatively longer Gibbon Surferline. Both lines have the same stretch, only the design and the length change. For advanced level tricklining we recommend our Trickline webbing Series that you can find on our Webshop.

The GIBBON Slow Release enables a slow releasing of the tension of set up slacklines. The opening of the ratchet lever is no longer needed, which results in no abrasion of the slackline, and no damage to the ratchet. If you would like to know more about our new Slow Release, please check out this video

For beginners, we highly recommend getting either a GIBBON Classic or GIBBON Funline. They can be set up at a low height, and have a very high durability. Our Classic line is currently the most used slackline for beginner.

Yes, the different sets generally vary by design and by performance. There are different webbing, different widths, and lengths. The main characteristic that change from one line to another is the elasticity of the line.

You can find our products in all renowned sporting goods retailers. In order to find the closest store near you, please refer to our store locator on the GIBBON Slacklines website, or the GIBBON Slacklines APP.

SET-UP

The slackline can be rigged to a maximum length of the set, considering the circumference of both anchor points (usually trees) deducted.

The ideal height for any slackline is always below the hip height of the user, but high enough to avoid touching the ground with the slackline when in use.

Yes, the GIBBON Slackrack can be used both indoor and outdoor. Please be aware that natural weathering may cause the metal parts to deteriorate.

For entry level slackliners we recommend setting the ground screws at a distance of 25ft-30ft. The length can be altered using the A-frames with the slackline not under full tension. The A-frames can also be used to set up the slackline at three different heights. When installed properly, the ground screws are rated at a strength of 4000 lbs. The maximum weight of any user is 240 lbs.

In this case we recommend getting the GIBBON Independence Kit, or alternatively parts of it (e.g. only one tree). Once installed, it can be set up at no time and offers several set-up possibilities with only one anchor setting.

The GIBBON Independence Kit can be set up at 30 cm, 50 cm, and 70 cm height.

Tree Protection is always useful and recommended. When using any trees or fix points, the GIBBON Treewear helps to avoid abrasion and unnecessary damage. If the treewear is too short to go around the tree, it is important to place it in the front, facing the direction of the line. In fact, the tension is higher in the front of the tree where the side of the slackline are, rather than the back of the tree.

You can install a slackline without trees using the Independence Kit. The set consist of two frames and two ground screws that can be placed in the ground. If you have small trees or a metal pole, you can also use our indoor gym set. It is similar to the Independence kit, but doesn't have the ground screw. Therefore, you can use it just like a normal slackline using the base of the pole or tree.
