How to Set Up a Slackline in Your Garden!
(With or Without Trees)
MMaking a decision is never easy, especially when there are so many options available. What is the difference between slacklines? And which slackline set is the best for beginners or for performing tricks? In this article, we will try to answer all these questions and help you choose the best line for your needs.
WHAT ARE THE FEATURES OF GIBBON SLACKLINES?
Founded in 2007 with the goal of making slacklining accessible to everyone, Gibbon emphasizes ease of setup, safety, and fun. Regardless of the set you choose, these three criteria are met, and all Gibbon slackline sets can be used for learning slacklining.
The quality of Gibbon slackline sets has been tested and confirmed for over twelve years. They are even TÜV-certified, ensuring they cannot be damaged with normal use.
No matter your choice, you'll be able to learn your first steps on a slackline. Let's now look at the various specifications to consider when selecting a slackline set.
WHAT TO CHOOSE BETWEEN A 2.5 CM, 3.5 CM, OR 5 CM WIDE SLACKLINE?
The wider the slackline, the heavier it is. While the 5 cm wide slacklines are the most comfortable, they can be challenging to carry for long distances (over 30 m).
If you're not interested in longlining (covering long distances), we recommend a 5 cm wide slackline like the Classic Line.
However, if you're undecided, the Banana Lama with a medium line width of 3.5 cm is the best compromise.
For children, the best slackline would be a 5 cm wide one, such as the Funline.
If you're into tricklining, you'll need a 5 cm wide line. There are various trickline bands like the Surferline, Epic Pro, Element...
WHAT TO CHOOSE BETWEEN A 15M OR A 25M SLACKLINE SET?
It depends on your ambitions. A 25m slackline can always be set up for less than 15m, while a 15m slackline cannot be extended beyond that length.
If you think you need a long line quickly, then go for a 25m line.
On the other hand, if you want a compact line that fits in a bag and is used for occasional practice, short lines like the Travel Line are perfect for you.
TENSION
All slackline sets are designed to be set up by beginners, making them easy to use in any case.
The Funline and the Classic Line also have low stretch, meaning they can be set up closer to the ground.
What varies among slackline sets, in addition to length, is the ratchets.
Depending on the slackline set, there is one or two, but there is also a difference between a classic ratchet and a power ratchet.
If you only want to walk a short line, a classic ratchet is sufficient.
If you want to set up a trickline, you'll need one or two power ratchets. It's also possible to purchase the ratchets separately to expand your equipment.
(WHEN THE TENSION IS VERY HIGH, IT IS ADVISABLE TO USE A SECOND RATCHET FOR SAFETY.)
WHAT IS YOUR GOAL?
Slacklining encompasses various exercises, so it's necessary to know which exercise might suit you best. What is the exercise that suits you?
For children, the Funline is the perfect line. It's comfortable, attractive, and has very low stretch, allowing it to be set up very low at any length.
If you just want to work on your balance in a park with friends and have chill sessions where you try to balance on it, then you can have fun with beginner slackline kits under optimal conditions.
You love the thrill. You want to go high and perform the most dedicated and beautiful tricks. In this case, the trickline is made for you. We have various trickline bands, including sets like the Surferline or the Jibline XL. If these sets no longer appeal to you, it's always possible to upgrade them, as I'll explain later.
You want to perform tricks on your slackline, but you're not interested in getting high on a tightly tensioned line. Then static tricks are right for you. In this case, many slacklines are suitable for you, depending on your preferences, which we will discuss later.
You want to walk longer lines, with ever-changing tension. In this case, the Flowline is made for you. It's the only 2.5 cm wide line from Gibbon equipped with two ratchets, allowing you to adjust the exact tension.
SLACKLINE WITHOUT TREES
It is possible to set up a slackline without trees in your garden, thanks to the Indikit for practicing on a length of 15 m. But there are two other devices you can set up in your home:
You want to train your balance with a fun and easy-to-use device.
You want to discover the various sensations of slacklining without having to set up and take down the line every time. In this case, the Giboard is made for you.
You are athletic and want to use the slackline to improve your core strength. You want to get better in your sport through targeted work. In this case, the Slackrack Fitness is made for you. Exercises can be found here.

And yes, the sets differ in length and width depending on the ratchet. But if you're still torn between two similar sets (Classic Line/Funline), it's all about your taste.
